Cartier is an iconic luxury brand that a great number of people all over the world look up to and admire for a variety of reasons, including envy.

A premium brand that began as a jewellery business has expanded its product offerings to include watches, fragrances, and leather goods. The company originally started off as a jewellery business. Cartier's reputation as the epitome of elegance, sophistication, and unbeatable luxury didn't take long to build, but the company has worked very hard to keep it.

The Beginnings of the Cartier Company
In the year 1847, Louis-Francois Cartier started a modest jewellery store in the city of Paris. This was the beginning of what would later become known as the Cartier brand. In the 1870s, his son, Alfred Cartier, succeeded him as head of the company and took over from his father. During the Siege of Paris, he was able to keep the little family firm afloat by purchasing jewellery from Parisians in a state of desperation at deeply discounted prices and then reselling it to members of the English aristocracy.

During that time period, the House of Cartier did not produce timepieces. Instead, the vast majority of their wares consisted of jewellery that was created by hand and quickly rose to prominence among the wealthy elite. The likes of Princess Mathilde, the niece of Napoleon I, and King Edward VII, who fondly referred to Cartier as "the jeweller of kings and the king of jewellers," were among their clients. Cartier was known as "the jeweller of kings and the king of jewellers."

The Ascendancy of Cartier in the 20th Century
Around the turn of the century, Louis, Pierre, and Jacques Cartier, the three sons of Alfred Cartier, joined the family business. Louis, the creative genius, was in charge of the Paris branch, while Jacques, the gemstone specialist, founded the London branch. Pierre, the business genius, expanded the family firm to New York. Jacques, the expert who opened the London branch, was in charge of the gemstones. The remarkable ability to network with the appropriate people and recognise new prospects and markets for the family jewellery business was something that all of the brothers shared in common. Within the first few decades of the 20th century, the three brothers worked together to establish Cartier as a household name across the globe.

Cartier is a French luxury goods corporation that designs, manufactures, distributes, and retails a wide range of premium products such as jewellery, watches, and accessories. Cartier was founded in 1847 and is headquartered in Paris.
